NPO Diet
The Super Secret NPO diet.
If you have ever been in a hospital the night before surgery you probably noticed a sign on your bed that read “NPO.” It stands for “Nil Per Os” which is Latin for “Nothing Through The Mouth” or more commonly “Nothing By Mouth.”
What a way to loose weight – just stop shoving stuff in your pie hole and Walhalla you fall away to nothing.
But that’s not going to work, for obvious reasons. The real reason for the NPO on your bed rail is to keep you from eating after a certain hour the night before surgery. They need your stomach empty before they stick a fork or scalpel in you.
One of the best kept secrets of losing weight is a simple combination of meal timing and daily fasting. Six very small meals spread out over the course of a day and a nightly NPO will drop your weight and burn fat faster than a starvation diet, here’s why:
When you reduce your caloric intake your body simply burns less energy to compensate. After just a few days your body will reset its caloric furnace to burn less fuel than it did before.
Where your weight was stable at 2,500 to 3,000 calories per day before the diet, you are now able to sustain the same stable weight at 1,800 to 2,000 calories a day. You can lose weight on a low caloric diet but it will take years rather than months to do it.
If you eat small amounts of food at six evenly spaced meals between the time you wake, and say 6:00 pm or so, and then do the NPO until breakfast you will lose weight in your sleep. Your body will still feel hunger pangs, but you won’t, because you will sleep right through them.
What you eat and when you eat are also extremely important. Carbohydrates are the easiest foods to convert to fuel for your body’s energy furnace. Your body will burn off carbohydrates first then turn to fats and lastly to proteins.
If, you eat normal amounts of carbohydrates before say 10:00 am, and then eat small limited carbohydrate meals for the rest of the day, you will have more energy through out the day and your body will not have a ready source of carbohydrate fuel at night.
With no carbos to burn, your body will be forced to convert the next easiest source of fuel, stored fat, to get you through your nightly ‘NPO’ fast.
There are many more secrets to fast weight loss and targeted fat burning in an ebook I recently read called The “10 Secrets of Fat Loss.” The book explains something called “Calorie Shifting” and how this simple idea can help you get and maintain the body shape you have always wanted. You can get your copy of this eBook from a link on my Carb Slashers website.
Loosing weight does not have to be painful or even unpleasant if you follow the NPO diet secret and use the incredible host of other food tricks you will find in the “10 Rules of Fat Loss” ebook

Low Carb Diets Are They Right For You?
Written by admin on March 2, 2010 – 1:54 pm -
Low carb diets are mostly based on cutting the amount of carbs you eat and increasing the amount of proteins and fats. This diet helps your body to consume fat reserves that are already in your body. Low carb diets are still popular and while they may help the average individual lose weight, they aren’t for athletes.
Low carb diets are not only safe, but if followed properly, can be heart-healthy. Low carb diets have several good effects on cholesterol. Low carb diets are designed to prevent blood sugar levels from spiking and causing the overproduction of insulin a hormone that helps convert carbohydrates to body fat. The first carbohydrates you need to add back to your diet when you move beyond Induction are more vegetables, then seeds and nuts, then berries and then if you are still losing legumes and grains. Low carb diets are easy for people who enjoy meats and cheese, but it may be tough for a vegetarian to go on a low carb diet.
Low-carb dieters dropped an average of 26 pounds, compared to an average of 14 pounds shed by the low-fat group. The low-carb group had decreases in blood fat levels and increases in good cholesterol than their counterparts on a low-fat diet. Low-carb diets are very popular for their quick results.
Low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat diets (such as the Atkins diet) have become very popular in recent years. These diets promise weight loss, weight maintenance, good health, and disease prevention. Low-carb dieters should also be aware that low-carbohydrate and low-calorie are not the same thing, just as low-fat and low-calorie are not synonymous. When something, like carbohydrates, is taken out of a product, (e.g., chips, ice cream or chocolate candy bars) other things are added to replace it.
Carbohydrates are not bad, only some of them are, and should be eaten in moderation. Finally, there is the personalized metabolic typing diet, which is using your body’s intuition to determine the best combination of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates for your optimal health. Carbohydrates are found in almost any kind of food, even vegetables — not just bread and pasta. Carbohydrates including bread, pasta, rice, cereals, milk, most fruit and any sweets usually provide over half of people’s daily calories. On a low-carb diet, however, carbohydrates are limited or avoided, thus leading to a significant reduction in calorie intake.
Low-carbohydrate diets probably result in weight loss by forcing your body to burn fat for energy. The body would rather burn carbohydrates- either from blood sugar or stored carbohydrates in your liver and muscles. Low-carbohydrate diets are essentially very simple. By restricting carbohydrate intake, cravings for carbohydrates will over time subside, resulting in a lower food consumption and weight loss.

How accurate (or inaccurate) are BMI and ideal weight body calculations?
Written by admin on March 1, 2010 – 3:46 pm -According to several BMI calculators I’ve used, my BMI is 26.5 and my ideal weight is about 175 lbs. Now, I’m 5′ 11″ and weight 190 (at 21 years of age) but I also weight train and carry a good amount of muscle mass. So am I really “overweight/unhealthy” or is the BMI a load of crap?

South Beach Diet comes in three phases. Phase I involves a two-week carbohydrates restriction. This means that the dieter should avoid intake of carb-rich foods such as pasta, rice, fruits, potatoes, bread, carrots, corn, and cereal. However, lean beef, poultry, cheese, nuts, vegetables, and seafood are still permitted. This will allow the dieter to lose up to 18 pounds in two weeks. The intention is, aside from bad carbohydrates and bad fats restriction is to get the body used to them.
In Phase II, these foods must still be put off the daily meal although some of it are slowly re-introduced but with minimal consumption. At least 2 pounds will continue to be shed while the body learns to adjust gradually to this way of eating.
In Phase III, which is the final but long-term or maintenance dietary plan, the person should be fully adjusted to the South Beach way of eating, thus achieving the desired weight, fitness, and already enjoying proper health status. Mostly, large servings of vegetables and fruits (up to three servings per day) are highly recommended plus whole grains. Does a low carb diet cause you to lose muscle? If so, what is the most effective way to lose body fat?
Written by admin on February 28, 2010 – 3:42 pm -I’m currently doing cardio 3 times a week coupled with power strength training twice a week. I used to eat good carbs (like multi grain bread, wheat and granola cereal, etc) and have lost 15kg in the past 6 months with about 10% of body fat down. Recently one health instructor I met told me that going on low carb is even better and I’ll lose weight even faster. I have since then (for about a week now) been on a low carb and it feels weird to be on a low carb, high fat & protein diet since I’ve been on a low fat diet for some time. I’ve also been researching and it seems low carb diets are unhealthy. Is this true? Pls advise. Thanks.
